Jan Kawulok, jak już pisaliśmy, był jednym z trzech kandydatów na dyrektora Cieszyńskiego Pogotowia Ratunkowego. Jak mówi Mieczysław Szczurek, wicestarosta cieszyński, Jan Kawulok jako dyrektor Zespołu Zakładów Opieki Zdrowotnej zarabiał 9,5 tys. zł brutto. Na nowym stanowisku może liczyć na niewiele mniej - około 8 tys. zł. Pensja dyrektora nie została jeszcze ostatecznie ustalona, ale - według Szczurka - raczej nie należy się spodziewać, aby Kawulok otrzymał mniej, niż jego poprzednik w pogotowiu Edward Czaja. Według władz powiatu, pogotowie może sobie pozwolić na takie wynagrodzenie dla dyrektora, gdyż jednostka „nie przynosi strat".
